Microsoft is beginning to test a new feature that may cause inconvenience to Windows 11 users

xda-developers said Microsoft is preparing to bring ads to more of its products. This time, it appears that the Windows 11 file explorer will receive this feature, as reported by some Windows Insider users.

Microsoft is beginning to test a new feature that may cause inconvenience to Windows 11 users

According to the website, a Twitter user, Florian B, also experimented with Windows Insider MVP, shared a screenshot of the file explorer on Windows 11 with an ad promoting Microsoft Editor, and at least the ad seems to show where it makes sense. Microsoft Editor is the company's tool for language checking and grammatical correction - a competitor to the most common Grammarly. As it appears in the screenshot, the ad appears when the user is in the "Documents" folder, so it can only be displayed where it makes sense.

However, the biggest story here is the fact that ads are injected into the file explorer in the first place. Microsoft is no stranger to advertising and sometimes imposing its own products on users, so that's not entirely surprising, but it's also not welcome to many users. This is not the only report available, as another user responded to a message inviting him to see the PowerPoint templates on Ofice.com.

xda-developers add that not much has been said about these ads. File explorer ads were not seen on Windows 11 personal computers on Dev, so this may be a very small test.
